Where Craft, Material, and Time Come Together

Miguel Montano is built on nearly three decades of working with leather — a practice that began in Guadalajara and continues today in New Mexico.

The work centers on creating useful objects — belts, small goods, and larger pieces — designed to be worn and carried daily.
Not as accessories in the decorative sense, but as objects that become part of your life over time.

Roots — From Guadalajara to New Mexico

The work began in 1996 in Guadalajara, through a simple encounter with leathercraft that became a lifelong direction.

What started as curiosity became discipline — learning the material, understanding its limits, and developing a way of working that values consistency over novelty.

Years later, that foundation continues in New Mexico, where the landscape — its light, colors, and stillness — naturally shaped the direction of the work.

The Craft — Built by Hand

Each piece begins with carefully selected leather, chosen for their quality, character, and suitability for the intended use.

We cut, edge, burnish, and finish by hand.
Machines are used only where necessary — never to replace the process, only to support it.

The goal is not to control the material, but to work with it.

Different projects call for different leathers, but the approach remains the same: respect the material, understand its behavior, and allow it to speak through the finished piece.

Every hide carries its own character — grain, marks, variation.
We keep that intact, allowing each piece to remain individual.

The Philosophy — Made to Be Used

The work is not designed to stand out.

It is designed to be used — daily, consistently — until it becomes familiar.

Over time, the leather softens, darkens, and develops a patina shaped by the person using it.
What begins as structure becomes something personal.

We do not chase perfection.
We focus on presence, function, and longevity.

The Work — A Growing Collection

The collection begins with belts as a foundation — a place where proportion, structure, and daily use are fully understood.

From there, the work expands naturally into other objects:
wallets, small goods, and larger pieces such as bags and briefcases.

Each item follows the same principles:
clarity, restraint, and long-term use.

The goal is not to offer more, but to offer what holds up over time.

The Brand — A Life’s Work

This is not a seasonal project or a trend-driven brand.

It is the result of years spent working with the same material, refining the same process, and staying committed to a way of making.

Rooted in Mexican heritage and shaped in New Mexico, the work reflects both — not as a statement, but as a natural outcome.

An Invitation

If you value objects that improve with use,
that carry time rather than resist it,

you will understand what this work is.

It is made to be worn, carried, lived with, and kept.
